    What is Virtual Reality (VR)?

    Virtual Reality (VR) is technology that places a person inside a 3D experience. Wearing a set of goggles, participants are able to remotely see, hear, and interact with a hotel, company office, product, training experience, or game.

    What is 360 video?

    360-degree videos are also known as immersive videos or spherical videos, Filmed where a view in every direction is recorded at the same time, 360 videos are shot using a custom rig with multiple cameras. They are a form of virtual reality.

    What is Augmented Reality (AR)?

    Augmented Reality (AR) is technology that blends digital information with real life. Made popular by the now-discontinued Google Glass, participants wear a set of eyeglasses or use a mobile phone to augment their current perception of the real world. For example, looking at a wine cellar with AR glasses might digitally overlay the Wine Spectator rating on top of each bottle. By contrast, VR fully immerses participants in a remote 3D world, intentionally not displaying their current environment.

    What is augmented reality and what is the difference between with virtual reality?

    Augmented reality (AR) is a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements/objects are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, or graphics. AR is the blending of virtual reality and real life. Users are able to interact with virtual elements in the real world. The difference with VR is that AR users continue to be in touch with the real world while interacting with virtual objects/elements around them. With VR, the user is immersed in a world that is completely fabricated and the user feels isolated from the real world.

    What are the difference between these VR headsets: Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear VR, Google Cardboard, HTC Vive, Sony PlayStationVR?

    Oculus Rift: Founded by modern VR pioneer Palmer Luckey, acquired by Facebook in 2014. Oculus technology powers the Samsung Gear VR, but its flagship tethered HMD launched in March 2016.

    Samsung Gear VR: The Gear VR is one of the most popular HMDs using a Samsung smartphone as its screen.


    Google Cardboard: Like the Samsung Gear VR, Google Cardboard does not have a display itself. You put your smartphone into the cardboard container and then you watch the VR experience. Often used in one:many VR apps, it's a low-cost way to experience virtual reality.


    HTC Vive: Created by a partnership between Taiwanese hardware company HTC and Seattle-based game distributor Valve, the Vive is one of the highest-quality tethered VR HMDs released in April 2016.


    Sony PlayStation VR: Released in October 2016 and predicted to quickly become one of the most popular VR platforms, given the existing 40 million PlayStation 4s already in-market.

    With most headsets currently available on the market, you can watch a VR experience with your glasses on. However, you can take off your glasses and watch the VR experience after adjusting the lens.
